Daily life in social isolation: ‘Time to learn a new skill’
IBCoM student and freelance photographer Milena Chopova has lonely breakfast and uses social isolation to learn some new skills.

Usually I have breakfast together with my neighbour, but since everyone is gone back home: here is my dining table for one.

As my yoga classes are now held online, I start my day by doing yoga and morning meditation. This helps me to stay calm and grounded during these uncertain times.

I have set the goal of starting an online course a while ago but unfortunately could not find time for that. But now, in self-isolation, I have the time to learn a new skill. Since I have a great passion for marketing, I started a Google digital marketing course.

Since my study-buddies are gone, this little bear is keeping me a company during the exam preparations.

Something I learned during quarantine: studying in bed isn't really productive.

After I realized that studying in bed is very ineffective, I got a new study space. I try to keep it clean and empty to not distract myself. Another tip: try to study during the day, since the daylight helps to focus.

All of my tutorials are now also held online and the biggest advantage of it: you can wake up five minutes before the tutorial starts and listen to the teacher in pajama from the comfort of your own sofa.

I'm making sure to get enough fresh air, by having daily walks in Kralingen. There are usually no people around. Sometimes, I get to observe very beautiful blooming, and I hope we will all be able to chill outdoors soon.

Another skill start I started to practice during self-isolation is playing the piano. I also found a very nice app that offers a 1-month free subscription during quarantine, so I hope to be able to play my favorite melodies in a while.

As my food consumption has largely increased while I am staying home, I try to keep myself fit by using resistance bands, so far, it is going good.
