Icy dip in Kralingse Plas aims to inspire students

On Saturday, around forty students took an icy dip in the Kralingse Plas to ‘find inspiration and set goals for 2020’.

Around noon, the students gather at athletics club PAC. The day starts with an explanation about Yes Theory. This is an American YouTube channel on which the video makers call on people to take a positive view of life and to step outside their comfort zone. The idea is that students will be inspired to set goals for 2020. To reinforce those recent resolutions, at around one o’clock they dive into the water.

This Polar Bear Dive organised by student associations Erasmus Extreme (for extreme sports) and Extraordinary Life aims to encourage students to step outside their comfort zone.

While some are keen to return to the warmth as soon as possible, others take a second dip in the Kralingse Plas. After a while, some of these daredevils have lost any feeling in their limbs. Which is understandable: it’s only 3 degrees outside.
