Pre-Eurekaweek
The Eurekaweek should be an unforgettable week (in the most positive of ways) for everyone, says president Candice Moolenaar.
Of course, as a new student, you also want to get to know your new city. Our Nora tips locations everyone should know.

The introductory week of Erasmus University promises to be one of the best weeks of your life, but if you’re not careful, Eurekaweek can become quite expensive. Fortunately, there are many ways to save a little money without sacrificing fun.
Eurekaweek often means little sleep and lots of beer. A recipe that can provide many unforgettable moments, but also regrets and hangxiety the next morning. From STIs to hangovers and rejections: you would prefer to avoid those this week. So, here follows a list of things to pay extra attention to in order to get through Eurekaweek unscathed.
Monday
Eurekaweek kicked off on Monday morning at Ahoy with an opening full of old and new traditions. Nervous first-year students, the Rotterdam song, and the message that help is available if the academic pressure becomes too much.
Thousands of new faces arrive at the university this week. To get to know them, we’ll feature a standout student each day. Ingrid’s corset perfectly matches her eyeshadow.
Whether you want to lounge, have lunch, play long games or like to catch up with your new group: the Binnenrotte is reserved for it on Monday afternoon. Watch as the freshmen took over the market square for a wee while.
The contrast couldn’t be greater on Monday evening. On the ground floor of Maassilo, DJs were spinning party tracks, while eight floors up, four violinists from Fem Melodics Strings were giving a concert with a classical twist.
Tuesday
The campus day started sunny, but it turned out to be typical Dutch weather.
Thousands of new faces are arriving at the university this week. To get to know them, we’re introducing a standout student each day. Today, Kevin lets go of his fashion inhibitions.
While the sun still shone occasionally during the campus market, it rained cats and dogs on Tuesday afternoon. Nevertheless, freshmen and members of student association Rotterdam Studenten Gezelschap (better known as RSG) enjoyed themselves on their terraces.
“You’re going to think back on this your whole life”, promises the cantus singer to a full Ahoy of students. “Am actually a bit jealous that you have all these years ahead of you.” He then sings Sweet Caroline and immediately everyone goes wild. The message about not standing on the benches was momentarily blown away by the party vibe.
Wednesday
At Sports & Play on Wednesday of Eurekaweek, all the sports clubs showcase themselves. On the grounds of the PAC athletics club, you can spot two types of first-year students: those sprinting from one sport to another, and those who had a rough night and choose to collapse into lazy chairs.
As first aid responders, Nico and Jolande Boef have been involved in Eurekaweek for more than ten years. During this year’s sports day, they encountered all sorts of situations: an injured guide, a dislocated arm, and many students in need of a paracetamol.
Thousands of new faces are arriving at the university this week. To get to know them, we’ll feature a student who stands out every day. Viviane’s manicure is enviable.
This year, enforcers have introduced new shifts during Eurekaweek. They are keeping an eye on Kralingen until the early hours of the night and morning. As the university grows, so do the problems. It’s a two-way street: students cause disturbances, and in return, ‘society girls’ are repeatedly harassed by men, according to enforcers Sander and Ramon.
Thursday
Thursday morning at 9am sharp, students from the Medical Faculty Association Rotterdam woke up sleepers in the sports building. EM walked along and chatted with sleepy freshmen.
Willemsplein smells of candyfloss and frying oil. A strong wind blows, but it’s not enough to dispel the sharp scent. After three nights of partying, the energy has dropped significantly. Students lounge on beanbags in the Silent Disco. In front of the main stage, a man with a full beard sits alone on a bench. Kaloyan Petrov (19) has straight black hair, parted in the middle and neatly trimmed at shoulder length. His full beard makes him look years older. Only the security guards can match his facial hair.
The Eurekaweek will end at the foot of the Erasmus Bridge. Chill spots, eateries and end it all with the final party of this introduction week.
