Erasmus Sport raises €837.50 for charity with its Lockdown Run

Erasmus Sport’s Lockdown Run had people running in cities as far apart as Rotterdam and Singapore. Runners’ times were recorded by means of an app, thus allowing runners to take part individually and remotely.

Event organiser Laurens Wielaard was happy with the result. “Our goal was to get two hundred people to take part.” With 209 runners signing up, it was a fairly large event, which could not have taken place the ‘regular’ way due to the coronavirus restrictions. Working with an app that recorded runners’ times ‘kept thing easy and clear, both for the participants and for the organising committee’. “EUR Roadrunners, the running club affiliated with Erasmus Sport, will start using the same app in March.”

Rapid race

The runners’ registration fees will be donated to charity. As a result, €837.50 was raised for the Friends of the Sophia Children’s Hospital Foundation.

One man reigned supreme in both the 5 and 10-kilometre races: Joris Wulfert beat his closest rival by more than two minutes in both races. He ran the 5k race in 00:18:20, and the 10k race in 00:37:42.
