EM is looking for a new student columnist. Do you think you write entertaining columns and want to write about your life as a student for a year? Take part in our columnist competition and who knows – your column might appear here every month!

You can choose the subject of your column yourself, as long as there is a connection to the university or student life. Whether you write about the smell coming from your housemate’s room, the quality of your lecturers, graduation stress or nocturnal adventures in Rotterdam, it doesn’t matter. As long as it is well written, bold and humorous.

A jury will judge the columns, paying particular attention to humour, power of observation and linguistic flair. The jury consists of Rotterdam journalist and columnist Tara Lewis, departing EM columnist Onno Gieszen (who won the second prize at a national congress for higher education journalism with his column Plug in the Droomvlucht), professor of Philosophy Ronald van Raak and EM editor-in-chief Wieneke Gunneweg.

The winner will get a spot as a columnist on erasmusmagazine.nl and will write a column every four weeks during this academic year. You will be paid for your columns and will receive writing guidance from an experienced editor.

Send your column of 300 to a maximum of 500 words before Friday 19 September to [email protected]. Add your cv and a short motivation.
