First edition Campusrun brought new faces and good vibes
Over two hundred runners ran the five- and ten-kilometres Campusrun on Saturday. With a wave of support from the audience, volunteers giving water bottles and cardboard signs with sentences like ‘I don’t know pain, only pain au chocolat’, race secretary Floris de Vries of Roadrunners is happy with this first edition.

There were 209 participants on Saturday, with 92 running the 5 kilometres, and 117 running the 10 kilometres. Although disappointed that the event wasn’t sold out, Floris de Vries of Roadrunners is still very happy with how many people showed up: “You’re thinking that running is such a hype that you can sell out an event in an hour, but usually it takes weeks or months, or they aren’t sold out at all. But I was happy with more than two hundred people.”
A lot of new faces participated this year: “There were twelve people who also ran the last Erasmusronde, so a lot of new runners. The organisation can be proud of reaching so many new people”, said Floris. They all brought great vibes with them: “People stayed after the run to have a protein shake. We were cheering on the runners, especially the ones arriving last.”

Encampment
From 13 May till 17 May, Occupy had set up a campsite on Erasmus Plaza. During the Campusrun, the encampment was still present. Floris revealed that there weren’t any issues encountered with the protesters, excluding some ‘late minute stress’: “I got a call on Friday evening from the municipality with some questions, to see if there were any differences planned with the track.”
