‘Bridgerton vibe’ or just ‘dancing like crazy’ at Maassilo
The contrast couldn’t be greater on Monday evening. On the ground floor of Maassilo, DJs were spinning party tracks, while eight floors up, four violinists from Fem Melodics Strings were giving a concert with a classical twist.
Various popular songs, from Mamma Mia to Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night, were played during the Fem Melodics Strings violin concert. A student exclaimed ‘yes!’ when her requested song, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, was performed. The student chose to attend the concert to get ‘a bit of peace’. “The activities are pretty intense, so it’s nice to recharge here for a bit”, she says.
Bridgerton vibe
“The concert gives off a Bridgerton vibe”, says a student. She and her fellow student had been dancing next to the stage. “We wanted to dance to Ed Sheeran’s Perfect, but we must have missed it. But it doesn’t matter; the music sounds so beautiful, so we danced anyway.”
The scene on the ground floor is completely different. The floor in front of the stage is packed with dancing first-year students. At the back, one student is dancing on the shoulders of his mate. “You can really dance here. It’s way more fun than upstairs, can’t you tell?”, he says. Another student would have also enjoyed a concert with ‘real classical music’. What does he mean by ‘real classical music’? “Music from the eighties and nineties, right?”
