Work is in full swing at the Education Centre in the Erasmus MC to repair the fire damage caused by the attack on 28 September. A white plastic screen cordons off the area set on fire that day by the suspect, Fouad L., with a Molotov cocktail. The current state of the Education Centre in eight photos.

A section of the centre is cordoned off by white plastic, behind which construction workers are working hard to restore the area. “The area suffered superficial fire and water damage, so it’s more of a clean-up than a renovation”, an Erasmus MC spokesperson said.

The Education Centre reopened on 9 October. Even building Gk, where lecturer Jurgen Damen was fatally shot, has been operational again since September 29. “The classroom where it happened remains closed, but it’s a large building with plenty of workspaces, so the rest of the area remains accessible to students and staff”, said the spokesperson.

The Education Centre is again almost as busy as before the attack.
