The Executive Board is asking lecturers to reflect on the events of Thursday 28 September at the start of their lectures this week. At about 2.30pm on that day, Fouad L. entered the education building on Rochussenstraat. Prior to that, on Heiman Dullaertplein, he had shot his 39-year old neighbour and her 14-year old daughter, neither of whom survived. On the fourth floor of the Gk building, he shot lecturer Jurgen Damen, a 43-year old lecturer of Practical Clinical Skills.
Scheduled events will go ahead as planned this week. Here too, the board asks people to reflect at the start on the events of last Thursday and to ensure that the mood remains respectful. The flags on campus will be half-mast until Saturday.
Minute's silence
At 2.30pm on Thursday 5 October, exactly a week later, a minute’s silence will be observed on Woudestein campus. Lecturers have been asked by the board to stop their lectures, and other members of staff have also been asked to stop their work.
In the Erasmus building on Woudestein campus, by the statue of Erasmus, there is a book of condolence. According to an online communication from the University, everyone is welcome to sign the book and to show their support. A memorial has been set up in the atrium of the hospital, as well as by the main entrance of the Gk building.
