
In the early evening, locals feared unrest at Kruisplein Square, but apart from some fireworks and a few arrests, things did not get too badly out of hand in front of the stadium.

However, there was a great deal of vandalism and looting in Rotterdam Zuid, where the marechaussee (military police corps), in full riot gear, blocked off a street. A burning van can be seen in the background.

After the rioters left for Bloemhof, they left a trail of destruction in their wake.

By 10 o’clock, shopkeepers and residents were busy clearing away the debris.
