Halfway through the race, the Dutch pair was at the front and held on to the finish. With a time of 6.57.35, they beat their Polish (silver) and Swiss (bronze) rivals.

Marieke Keijser (21) is one of the biggest talents in Dutch rowing. Last year she joined up with Ilse Paulis, who won gold at the Rio Olympic Games with another Skadi member, Maaike Head.

Jasper Tissen, the other Skadi member competing in Glasgow, came fifth in the coxless four.
