Madalena aims for ‘beach vibes’ with her outfit

Gepubliceerd op:

Between the pizza-filled tables and the festival stage, Madalena (21) is catching the afternoon sun. She wears a long white skirt that is airy, but not too cold.

Madalena wants to create festival and beach vibes with her outfit, but finds the festival has too many 'city vibes'.

The skirt is made of stiff cotton with a softer lining. She chose it for ‘festival vibes’, because she thought the event would be in a greener setting. She finds the grey Lloyd Multiplein more ‘city vibes’. The party hasn’t really got going for Madalena yet, but ‘when it gets darker and more people arrive’ she will definitely dance.

Flowers

She is wearing a purple halter top and a bag with an orange shoulder strap. When she chooses an outfit, she mainly goes by colours. “I really love pink and purple”, she says. Her nails are pink with yellow and orange tropical flowers. Together with the top it creates a ‘beach vibe’. Growing up in Portugal, she went to her grandparents’ beach hut every summer. She can spend whole summers on the beach: “Just getting tanned and going into the water and playing in the waves.” She has been back in the Netherlands for less than a week.

Madalena is going to do the master’s in Economics and Business Marketing, but she will continue living in Tilburg, where she completed her bachelor’s in recent years. There, as an international student, she came to love the Dutch student culture. She appreciates a cantus with Dutch-language music, although she can’t sing along to everything. “For me it’s always Ik wil je, that’s the only one I know”, she says, “and I also like Brabant!”

Statement earrings

During her master’s she hopes to make contact with large companies and do marketing projects for them. She is mainly thinking of the companies that come to the university, but her ‘favourite Dutch company’ is actually My Jewellery. She recommends it to every new international student and immediately starts thinking up a campaign to give the jewellery brand a place in the introduction week.

She wears several gold-coloured rings. One is shaped like a ginkgo leaf, another has a large flower that matches the flowers on her bracelet. She wears a four-leaf clover pendant and a strand of rose quartz on her wrist. Madalena: “I like wearing larger statement earrings, because I think they add a lot to my face.” Today they are starfish.

What is the nicest compliment you have received?

“People like my jewellery and how I style it. Yesterday a Dutch girl from my group said, ‘You’re covered in flowers, so cute!’ If people like it, I feel I have made a universal choice, something everyone could appreciate, even someone with a different style.”
