Let’s talk … How should you approach room interviews?
Don’t bring your mum. Be sociable, but not too sociable. Ideally, it helps if you already know someone in the student house. And what if you’re an international student responding to an advert that says Dutch students only? What’s the best way to handle hospiteren? Or do you think the whole concept of room interviews should be abandoned, like at SSH in Utrecht? Share your experiences!

Housing
-
Everybody knows the housing market is a disaster. There’s a severe shortage of accommodation, and if you do manage to find a place, you should count yourself lucky to have even a halfway decent landlord. But what about your future housemates? As a student, you’re often at the mercy of these potential new housemates when it comes to getting a spot in the house. How do you make the right impression on a room interview night?
We’d love to hear about your experiences at such viewing evenings. What challenges did you face? Did you bring gifts? Did you try to learn everyone’s names beforehand?
Or are you on the other side, watching endless streams of people walk through your door who could use some advice? Maybe don’t start by mentioning your weed habit right away? Or clearly indicate that you do enjoy doing fun things outside of your studies?
