Social loneliness (few or no friends or close contacts), emotional loneliness (missing someone with whom you have a close, intimate relationship), physical loneliness (the need for a hug or other physical contact). There are many different forms of loneliness. The absence of an emotional bond can lead to mental health issues, such as an overwhelming sense of meaninglessness or sadness, so severe that these issues can even manifest physically.

Are you one of the students who sometimes feels lonely? Or perhaps a staff member? Share your thoughts here, so others know they’re not alone in these feelings. Or do you have tips? We’d love to hear from you.

Do you have an opinion on the research into students’ mental wellbeing? You can also use the form below to share your thoughts.
