Inspiring workshops: the highlight of Eurekaweek for new master’s students

Gepubliceerd op:

On the third day of Eurekaweek, master’s students separated from the rest of the freshmen and took part in a day full of workshops designed especially for them. Around 450 students gathered in Theil building for two rounds of workshops given by 15 different organisations, and wrapped up the day with networking drinks.

Angela is one of the students who took part in the 2019 edition of Master Day. She is starting her Master in Management at Erasmus University, and is excited to go back to studying after a year of working. The Master Day turned out to be a good way to prepare for her new studies. “I took the leadership training workshop from TopDesk, and was really inspired by the guy teaching the workshop because he was just so enthusiastic.”, she explains. “I’m also taking part in the rest of Eurekaweek, but I enjoyed today more than the other days because today, I felt like I knew what was expected of me and the schedule was very clear.”

Finding employment

Angela isn’t the only new master’s student who got the most out of Master Day; Roza, from Germany, and Karolina, from Poland, name the workshop given by College Life as their favourite workshop. “The presenter taught us how to find employment in the Netherlands through unofficial channels.”, Karolina, a new student in Business Information Management, explains. “In other words, we learned how to approach and convince an employer to hire us even when a recruitment process isn’t in place.”

College Life’s Kristian Voldrich, the teacher of the respective workshop, is glad to hear his workshop was the students’ favourite. “We give a lot of workshops in different universities so it is good to hear our participants enjoy them.” Kristian says. “Our workshop today attracted a lot of international students, which isn’t surprising since they are our platform’s primary focus.”

Dietary restrictions

Both Zara and Karolina have enjoyed making friends during the week but also give some criticism to Eurekaweek for the organisation; “I’ve been offered a vegan option only once during this week even though I checked that box during registration. Other times I had to check the food for myself.”, Zara, a Commercial Law student, says. “I wish they followed through with the dietary restrictions more carefully, since they do ask for them beforehand.” Karolina, on the other hand, has had fun with her Eurekaweek group but is still left hoping that there had been more students from her own course in the group.
