Bureaucracy, cold weather and language barriers. The biggest challenges international students face in Rotterdam
Adjusting to life in a new country as an international student comes with unique challenges. Students talk about their biggest challenges. “The weather got much colder really fast.”
Other students face problems with bureaucracy. “There’s a certain number of hours that you’re allowed to work, and certain companies won’t be willing to give you a work permit.” Others face personal struggles, such as overcoming language barriers. “I can’t get out of my shell and not be embarrassed to talk Dutch to people, even though I understand quite a lot of it.”
