SSR-R allowed again to participate online in Eurekaweek

Gepubliceerd op:

On Monday, representatives of the Rotterdam chapter of the SSR student society spoke to EUR Rector Rutger Engels, who had previously banned the society from organising any activities due to the large number of coronavirus infections among its members. According to SSR chair Jelle Mooij, they had a ‘good talk’, which resulted in the society being allowed to offer some activities, albeit only online.

“We were thankful to be offered the opportunity to tell our entire story in person,” said SSR chair Jelle Mooij. The university, too, said that it was a ‘constructive conversation’, after which it was decided that the society would be given the green light to present online activities during Eurekaweek.

“We are all too aware that it is vital for SSR that it be able to present itself to this year’s new EUR students,” a spokesperson for the university stated. For his part, Mooij said: “Our activities can be found on Eurekaweek’s official website, but also on our own website and social media channels.”

Trip to Greece

Last week, 23 members of an SSR sub-society (dispuut) contracted the coronavirus during a trip to Greece. EUR Rector Rutger Engels felt that the situation warranted the society’s immediate ban from all Eurekaweek activities, both in person and online. The infected members of the society entered into quarantine as soon as they received their test results. Furthermore, the regional public health service, GGD-Rotterdam-Rijnmond, traced all their contacts.
