EUR team opens with a draw in university quiz competition

Universiteitsstrijd van de NTR.
The Erasmus University team drew with Twente University in the first pool game of the university quiz competition. Students Patrick Aarnoudse, Ymro Hoogendoorn and Kevin Bruggeman seemed to have lost, but a lucky final round meant they ended up with the same number of points as Twente.
In the opening round, the Rotterdam team – mainly thanks to Bruggeman’s knowledge of Dante’s work – raced to a 30-20 lead. Then the team from Twente University drew level by scoring the points on the beta questions. At the start of the final round, the Erasmus team were behind 90-130.
Tinbergen
However, the EUR students did well in this round. Their question was about the Nobel Prize winning Tinbergen brothers, which was obviously no problem for the Rotterdam team: Jan Tinbergen was linked to their university and his famous motto ‘Van de verdeling komt de winst’ [By sharing we profit] adorns the benches by the supermarket on Woudestein campus. Their correct answer scored them 40 points, levelling the score. Neither of the teams was able to answer Twente’s final question about the structure of meteorites. The result was the first draw in the quiz series.
Because the teams play in pools, the Erasmus University team still has everything to play for. The team is now joint second behind Utrecht University. The final is on 30 September.
