Three in ten EUR lecturers have not had didactic training. Erasmus University is close to the national average in this. In Leiden, nine in ten lecturers have a higher education teaching qualification (bko), while half of the lecturers in Eindhoven are not qualified to give lectures.
On Monday the Dutch National Students’ Association (ISO) sounded a warning about unqualified lecturers. In 2008, universities agreed that as many lecturers as possible should be given didactic training. However, an ISO review shows that 30 percent still do not have a higher education teaching qualification. The ISO now wants to make didactic training compulsory.
