It’s Halloween this Saturday, and quite a few places in Rotterdam intend to mark the occasion. At BAR, they’ll be celebrating Dia de los Muertos met Benny Rodrigues en Ben Fresh.
This Mexican party is all about remembering the dead. Those still with us can get in the mood by painting a typical Mexican ‘sugar skull’ design on their face. The evening kicks off with delicious Mexican food, and throughout the night, BAR will be serving mezcal – tequila squared. Headache guaranteed! Anyone with a sugar skull painted on his or her face is given a free shot and gets to keep the 8 euro admission fee.

For a slightly more expensive evening – although you’re guaranteed to be dazzled by the costumes – head over to MTC Beauty and the Beast in Annabel. Ted Langenbach and Pietra Ligura’s events are known for their edgy dancers and extravagant dress codes. This time round, the themes to choose from are: Twin Freaks, Poltergeist Playboy or Hairy Horror Handjob. Inspired yet?
Would you rather go out in your regular togs?
On Friday, IFFR, North Sea Jazz and Kunsthal will be organising a joint offering: Mash Up. Start the evening with the avant-premiere of director Joachim Trier’s new film ‘Louder than Bombs’. After that, drop by the exhibition ‘Keith Haring. The Political Line’. And you can round off Mash Up with a special performance by Dominic J. Marshall, in which the 25-year-old British jazz virtuoso allows himself to be inspired by the Haring exhibition.
