RSC/RVSV accused of poo stunt targeting student houses in Utrecht

Student houses belonging to the Utrecht Student Corps (USC) were smeared with faeces, pelted with eggs and spray-painted with graffiti on Tuesday 6 October. Videos of the incident are circulating in group chats. Several USC members believe a fraternity from the Rotterdam Student Corps (RSC/RVSV) was behind the stunt, RTV Utrecht reports.

A video seen by RTV Utrecht shows a person wearing yellow rubber gloves collecting faeces in a field and putting it in a bin bag. The mixture of mud and faeces is then smeared across a front wall. Footage of this is online. Other footage shows that one house was pelted with eggs at least twice. The words ‘new beginning’ and ‘gay’ have been spray-painted in blue on the side wall of another student house.

Greetings from Rotterdam

The video ends with the chorus of the rap song Greetings from Rotterdam by Seaneman. Someone also commented under a video circulating on social media: “This has left me with quite a lot of shoulder trouble!” This could be a reference to a men’s fraternity at RSC/RVSV called De Shoulders.

A USC student who spoke to the Utrecht broadcaster said it was being said within the society that the Rotterdam corps was behind the stunt. USC chair Joris Verstappen also does not rule out that some RSC members had a hand in it.

The RSC president was unavailable for comment on Monday.
