Perhaps this is your first year in Rotterdam or you have been living here for ten years. It makes no difference because the place to be for every Rotterdam resident this weekend is on Witte de Withstraat during the art and drinking festival ‘The World of Witte de With’.
During the day people will buzz about the art in the many galleries that grace this street, but in the evening when the street is like a carpet made up of empty plastic cups (which I consider art as well for that matter), the party is on!
What is there to do? Sunday, at the Blender terrace there will be a large vintage market where you can find masterpieces for your cabinets from ‘Trash&Treasures’, ‘Tony’s Garage Sale’ and ‘Ruby Lee and the Vintage Factory’. You can pick up artworks for hanging on your walls dirt cheap at Studio Unit20. Young artists clean out their ateliers and during ‘Sell Out’ you’ll find treasures for your student rooms. In the ‘SEVENTYFIVE’ sneakers shop you’ll find an exposition of artists who have created works for the party organisation AN&NAS and you can also purchase discount tickets here for the large ‘Disco Flamingo Party’ in Bahn to be held on Friday. There is a party in the Ballroom every day; Owner Aziz Yagoub: “Outside there is a large Gin and Tonic Bar and inside we’ll let loose with Mr. Nice Guy on Friday and Jeff Solo on Saturday.”
What else? Noordplein will be the site of ‘Rrrolling Rotterdam’ the entire weekend. A square full of food trucks, pulled pork, hamburgers and lots of trimmings. And there will be twerking in BAR during ‘Parelmoeder’ (mother of pearl) on Saturday. And if you would like to do a good deed, on Saturday you can hand in a welcoming package for a refuge at Rotown. It’s simple: fill up a shoe box with nice things, toys, games and candy; put a ribbon around it and collect karma points.
