EUR stable in top 100
Erasmus University continues to do well in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings which were published on Wednesday. The university announced that the EUR has risen one place, from 73 to 72.
The EUR is thus the third top Dutch university in the THE World University Rankings. Only Leiden (64) and Delft (71) are ranked higher. Wageningen, the University of Amsterdam and Utrecht are also in the top hundred.
EUR has been doing well in the THE rankings for several years. In 2012, the university was the fastest European riser in the list, moving up from 157 to 72. Since then, the university has maintained its position in the top 100. EUR is also among the world’s top hundred universities according to the QS ranking, which is always published slightly earlier than the rival THE rankings. In that other important international list of universities, the Shanghai ranking, the university – like most Dutch universities – is not doing quite as well. In this list, the EUR is between position 151 and 200.
The Shanghai ranking only looks at the publications, references and important prizes awarded to academics and scientists. QS and THE have a slightly broader approach when assessing the quality of an institution. For example, the THE World University Rankings uses thirteen different performance indicators in the field of education, research, references, revenue from industry (innovation) and international appeal. More about the methodology of the THE ranking is available here. TF
