EUC students to have digs in the heart of the city

As of September, the first-year students enrolled in Erasmus University College (EUC) will no longer be set up in The Student Hotel on Oostzeedijk, but in a converted office building on Stadhuisplein.
The building, situated on a square directly off Coolsingel, will offer room for 218 first-year students. This means the students will not only live within rolling distance of a wide range of bars, clubs and eateries, but also close to EUC’s building on Nieuwemarkt.
The building, which has been christened ‘Lucia’, will offer each student his or her own furnished or semi-furnished studio apartment with an en-suite kitchen and a bathroom. In addition, the residents have access to various shared facilities, including washing machines and a rooftop terrace. The all-inclusive monthly rent will be 595 euro.

Long-held wish
The opening of the new inner-city student housing complex realises a ‘long-held wish’ on the part of Erasmus University and the Municipality of Rotterdam: greater visibility for the University and its student body in the city centre.
The students’ present accommodation in The Student Hotel was recently the subject of some controversy. According to the Dutch Student Union (LSVb), the rooms were too expensive and the residents did not enjoy rent protection, since the complex was officially a hotel.
Erasmus University College opened in 2013. The College accepts outstanding students from the Netherlands and abroad and offers a three-year Liberal Arts & Sciences bachelor programme.
