Part of Erasmus MC evacuated after chemical release

Part of Erasmus MC was evacuated at approximately 1.15 pm on Thursday because of the release of ‘air-borne chemicals’. According to the Safety Region, ‘a kind of burning smell’ was detected in two research rooms in the Imaging Department, on the building’s second floor. Around 3.20 pm, the hospital was declared safe again.
A total of five employees suffered complaints as a result of this smell. Two employees were examined at accident and emergency
Emergency services were now at the scene. It is still unclear whether and what type of substance was released. The hospital and the fire service are conducting an investigation into the cause of the emergency.
