EM TV newsflash: Shorter waiting time for medical interns, lively trade in graduation tickets and purchasing power increase
Every Monday, an overview of the most important news from Erasmus University. This week: the waiting time for 35 medical students on their internship has been reduced by the faculty. A lively trade in guest tickets for graduation ceremonies dismays faculties. And students’ purchasing power slightly increases next year.

Medical students see their maximum waiting times for their internships shortened from seventy weeks to fifty weeks. 35 students got very unlucky in the allocation lottery in August and had to wait until June 2028 to start with their internships. That would lead to severe study delays. They are so desperate, that they are willing to pay other students thousands of euros to swap for earlier placements.
Also, students from the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication and the Rotterdam School of Management sometimes resell their graduation guest tickets. The degree programmes report ‘exorbitant’ resale prices and find this practice ‘undesirable’. And next year, students will have seven euros more to spend per month , because their purchasing power will improve with 0.5 per cent.
