Erasmus University receives 200 refugees in sports centre

Thursday night, employees of Erasmus Sport and members of the Red Cross rushed to prepare Erasmus Sport for the reception of possibly 250 refugees. Around half past twelve, the first refugees arrived on campus.

Thursday afternoon Pauline van der Meer Mohr, chair of the Executive Board, announced Erasmus University will be accomodating 250 refugees. It eventually turned out to be approximately 200 people.
Later in the evening, the Red Cross arrived with 200 beds and accompanying blankets and other facilities. Students that were present in the building at the time of closing, were told the sports centre will be closed until Sunday or Monday.
The refugees will stay for a maximum of 72 hours, after that they will be transferred to other, regular accomodations.
