Break-in at the F building, boilers and taps stolen
There was a break-in at the F building this weekend. The barrier at the entrance
on Kralingse Zoom was bent out of shape, several security cameras were covered
up and three glass windows next to entrance doors in the F building were
smashed.

Security received a report of the break-in on Monday morning. Security staff then
entered the F building. There was a layer of water in the corridors and the
electricity had failed in (parts of) the building. Security discovered that boilers
and taps had disappeared from several locations. The fire alarm control panel,
where all signals from smoke and fire detectors are received, had also been
damaged.
The university then contacted the police, who carried out an investigation. The
Forensic Investigation Unit secured evidence, including three cigarette butts with
fresh ash. It may be possible to trace these back to the perpetrators.
The university has filed a report, a spokesperson said. International students
lived in the F building until the end of last year. The building has been closed
since 1 January in preparation for demolition.
The G building was also closed on Tuesday due to the power failure. That building
is largely empty as well, but is normally still open for the meditation room on the ground
floor, which is used by students and staff for prayer. It’s not clear when the meditation room will be available again.
