Alex was nominated for his commitment to an open campus culture
Alex Huang (25) has been nominated for Student of the Year because of his mission to teach people about diversity and inclusion and make the university a more inclusive and safer place.
His efforts include the organisation of iftars for muslim students during the ramadan. Further, he created a system called ‘student-confidential persons’ to provide support and a listening ear for students who may need someone to talk to. In addition, Alex has given talks about queer emancipation and intersectionality, helping others understand and respect different identities and experiences.
Creating an accepting campus culture is close to his heart: “It makes me very motivated to do this work, to make students like me and basically everyone, to feel more at home.”
These efforts have made a significant impact and led to Alex’s nomination for Student of the Year.
