Ramadan fired
Guest Professor at the EUR Tariq Ramadan has been removed from office. His credibility as integration advisor came under pressure when it emerged that the Islam specialist and philosopher is the anchor of a TV show on Press TV, which is partly funded by the current Iranian regime.
Ramadan says in a letter to a Dutch newspaper that he never supported the regime. But he is blamed for having stayed on with the broadcaster after the bloody suppressing of student protests resulting from Iran’s disputed elections in June. To another newspaper Ramadan said he did consider leaving Press TV but decided to stay because: “with walking away you have no influence”. Ramadan’s position at the EUR was funded by the city of Rotterdam. When the university asked him to leave Press TV, Ramadan did not act and the university decided to sack him. He has said he will go to court. HOP
