Students fear AI accusations: ‘I put so much effort into that paper, and then they accuse me of AI?’
Students, staff, even the Executive Board: everybody is using AI. Some students fear the consequences, others use it liberally.
“Earlier, I would think that it’s a little like a crime, but now, I don’t really care about that”, says Yuvraj, an IBA student about using AI for his university work. “I always add my own personal touch to whatever assignment I submit.”
But other students fear one wrong step could lead to consequences. For example, getting accused of using AI-generated text, even if you say you didn’t. “I put so much effort into that paper, and then to accuse me of AI? Are you kidding me? I hate it”, said Wessel, a student in Global Business & Sustainability. His group used AI to create the bibliography, he says, but they accidentally mixed some things up, even though the sources were real.
Out of fear of accusations, students are taking preventive measures. Yan, an IBCoM student, even changed her general writing style. “I used to love writing with the em dash, but now it’s something I’m really worried about, because it can be detected as if it was AI, even if it isn’t”, she says.
