New exhibition by Hadassah Emmerich at Erasmus Gallery showcases a colorful continuation of her Langeveld murals

The Erasmus Gallery is presenting Twisting Thriving Topographies, a solo exhibition by artist Hadassah Emmerich as per Monday. The exhibition continues the ideas behind the mural of the same name that Emmerich created in 2025 and 2026 in the two stairwells of the Langeveld building.

For this exhibition, Emmerich uses the same materials, colours, and techniques featured in the mural. In doing so, she creates a connection between the exhibition, her artwork on campus, and the architecture of the Langeveld building.

Hadassah Emmerich (1974) lives and works in Brussels. Her work explores how painting can extend beyond the traditional canvas by combining it with architecture and installation art. Her artworks feature organic shapes, patterns, and vibrant colours, often incorporating elements that evoke plants, landscapes, bodies, and ornamental forms. Colour plays a central role in her practice. By combining different colours, materials, and surfaces, she creates layered works that can be experienced in different ways.

Diverse Character

With Twisting Thriving Topographies, Emmerich demonstrates how the ideas behind her mural have evolved further. Visitors can explore works in which painting, material, and architecture come together.

According to the curator of the Erasmus Gallery, the exhibition reflects the university’s international and diverse character. Emmerich’s works bring together a variety of influences while leaving room for different ways of seeing and interpreting.

Twisting Thriving Topographies will be on view at the Erasmus Gallery from 24 August through 11 December 2026.
