How non-European students are suffering by a doubling of their tuition fees
Tuition fees for students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) have more than doubled in five years. And the plan is to raise that amount by 9 percent. How exactly does that work?
A bachelor’s student in Psychology now pays almost 14,000 euros for an academic year, whereas in 2022 it was still less than 7,000 euros. An advisory committee proposes raising that amount by 9 percent.
Non-European students are experiencing financial stress: “My father sold his apartment, and now considers selling his car”, says Adelya, a Russian student International Business Administration (IBA). Audy, an Indonesian IBA student: “I’m considering dropping out because of the high costs.” Both students pay 15,200 euros per year for their bachelor’s. Audy is now unsure about a master’s: “My parents did not expect this increase in costs.”
