The Executive Board does not intend to make any changes to the number of all-gender toilets for the time being. It stated this in a letter to the University Council. The council had proposed removing some of the all-gender toilets in exchange for women’s toilets.

The Executive Board (EB) is awaiting a university-wide policy currently being developed by the IDEA Centre, the university’s diversity department. This is expected in the first quarter of 2026.

The University Council had submitted a proposal to the EB regarding all-gender toilets, which is open to anyone regardless of gender. The council wanted to reduce their number and reintroduce women’s toilets on the entrance floors of educational buildings. The council wrote this was due to concerns from primarily female students, who said they don’t always feel safe in gender-neutral toilets.

First quarter of 2026

The Executive Board has rejected the proposal and says it will first await the policy currently being drafted by the IDEA Centre. According to the Executive Board, the recommendations of all parties involved are being taken seriously and have already been shared with the IDEA Centre.

Although the University Council called for swift action, the university expects to be able to present a final policy in the first quarter of 2026. Until then, the all-gender toilets will remain as they are.
