Holding hands, studying together or going on a date at the Food Plaza – readers have witnessed plenty of romance on campus. But staff member Jaap may have seen the most remarkable scene of all. He submitted a compilation of video footage he recorded during the storm on 18 January 2018. The fierce wind blew people off their feet. In the video, a woman is swept off the pavement while a man clings to a lamppost. He grabs the woman, and together they embrace tightly around the pole. “I wonder if this moment led to a romantic sequel?”, Jaap muses. “The chances of tracking them down and finding out if they’d like to share their story are slim, but still.”
Love in the lecture hall and on a ski trip
Many students end up in relationships with their classmates, as our survey suggests. Student Elitsa: “We’re in the same programme, and by pure chance, we ended up in the same workgroup.” That’s where love began to blossom. “Now people know us as the couple that always sits at the front in lecture halls. We’re really happy together.”
Another student met her boyfriend during a ski trip with Erasmus Extreme. “Two years later, we’re still extremely in love with each other”, she says.
A date idea
With its park and gardens, the campus is actually quite a romantic spot, students responded on Instagram. “A date at the Paviljoen is a great idea. You have a view of the pond, with animals roaming around”, one student suggests.
