‘Just be yourself’ during room interview
What is the best way to handle hospiteren? Do you bring gifts? Do you need to know one of the residents to stand a chance? ‘Hospiteren’ is a Dutch tradition. During a hospiteer-evening, all applicants for a room are invited to meet the current residents and view the room. The residents will then choose one of the applicants to be their new roommate.

“I avoided hospiteer-evenings as much as possible”, says one student. This response outlines how difficult hospiteren can be. While some responders on our Instagram throw their charm as well as alcohol into the fray, for most responders there is still nothing to do but ‘hope for the best’ during such an evening.
One student offers a tip: just be yourself. For another student, the problem lies elsewhere: “Where can I find a house?”
