The ISO is one of the two national organisations representing students’ interests in politics. Its constituency consists of the students of central participation councils at universities and universities of applied sciences.
The other national organisation is the LSVb, the National Students’ Union, which also elected a new board earlier this month. That has its roots in local student unions.
The new ISO president, Demi Janssen, is a second-year liberal arts & sciences student at Maastricht University. Already in secondary school, she threw herself into participation. She also chaired the Youth Council in Venlo and served on the university council. She made the local news at 18 when she graduated from grammar school in fourteen subjects.
22-year-old Daniël van Brussel is almost finished with his master’s degree in governance & policy at Utrecht University. His graduation internship is with the police. He is taking charge of the ISO’s internal organisation.

The new treasurer is 19-year-old Luca Hellings, a second-year student at Erasmus University. He is pursuing a double major in economics and law, as well as a part-time bachelor’s degree in philosophy.
Political advocacy will be in the hands of 20-year-old Jorgen Blom, a bachelor student at Radboud University Nijmegen’s European Law School.

The only one who also studied in a university of applied sciences is incoming general board member Lotte Jansen (24). She did a bachelor’s degree in European studies at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences and is now following the master’s in political science at Radboud University Nijmegen. Within the master’s programme, she is specialising in gender equality, diversity & inclusion.
The new board is now being inaugurated. It will take over from the current board from 24 June.
