Erasmus School of Economics to have Interim Dean from February

The Erasmus School of Economics will have an Interim Dean from 1 February 2019. Frank van der Duijn Schouten takes over the dean’s office for a year and a half. He succeeds the current dean Philip Hans Franses, who after 12 years resigns the dean’s office and continues as a scientist.

Van der Duijn Schouten (1949) was Interim Dean of the Erasmus School of Philosophy until October. Earlier, the Professor of Mathematical Decision Making was Rector Magnificus of Tilburg University and VU University Amsterdam.

In a press release the Executive Board says it has decided to appoint an Interim Dean as the recent search for a new permanent Dean has ‘unfortunately not resulted in finding the right candidate for the School’.

According to the Executive Board, Van der Duijn Schouten is ‘very experienced and respected’ and therefore ‘extremely well equipped to (temporarily) lead the Erasmus School of Economics, the oldest faculty of the Erasmus University’. And emphasizes in her writing that this appointment was made in close consultation with those involved within the faculty.

Trend

With the appointment of yet another interim director, there seems to be a trend at the university. Earlier, Philosophy opted for an Interim Dean. And at the moment, the Erasmus School of History Culture and Communications and the Erasmus University College also have an interim director. The Executive Board itself also had an interim member for a year and a half.

Back to his research

Philip Hans Franses will dedicate himself again to his scientific work after 1 February. Franses remains affiliated with Erasmus School of Economics, as professor of Applied Econometrics and Marketing Research.
