‘Erasmus University to allocate an additional €200,000 to cleaning work’

Gepubliceerd op:

The FNV trade union has reported that Erasmus University has agreed to give office-cleaning company Asito an additional €200,000 for extra cleaning hours in order to resolve the ongoing industrial dispute between Asito and its cleaners. Thanks to the cash injection, all the Asito cleaners currently working on campus will be able to keep their hours.

The cleaners staged protests on campus in early February.

More about the cleaners' protests

Earlier this year, the cleaners staged several protests on campus to show their displeasure at their increased workload and deteriorating working conditions. They said their hours were no longer merely at EUR, but that they had to work at several locations. They also claimed that their workload had increased. Asito admonished four cleaners due to incidents that occurred during the protests.

Very happy

FNV says it is very happy with the outcome of the industrial dispute. For its part, Erasmus University has neither confirmed nor denied that it has promised Asito more money. “For reasons of confidentiality, we never release statements on the contents of such contracts,” said a spokesperson for the university.

Asito has not confirmed that its budget has been increased either, but has confirmed that EUR has increased the amount of cleaning it wishes Asito to do on campus.
