Philosophy to join ‘Erasmus Schools’
Last year, it was FSW and iBMG’s turn to change their names. And at the end of the summer, EUR’s Faculty of Philosophy will be following suit: as of September, its philosophers will work and study under the banner of Erasmus School of Philosophy (ESPhil).

“We enjoy being a part of positive changes within our university. And we believe it is important to comply – particularly now that FSW and iBMG are working under a new name,” explains Faculty spokesperson Evaline Bender. Furthermore, the faculty hopes that the new name Erasmus School of Philosophy will strengthen its international image.
According to Bender, the change of name is in line with various new developments within the faculty these past few years. For example, Philosophy recently launched an English-language master programme. And the working language within its flagship Double Degree programme is also English.
Bender has a big job ahead of her though: “We still have to implement the name change in all our printed materials and in our communications with existing and prospective students. But fortunately, we aren’t the first faculty going through this process.”
