No, there aren’t suddenly two new faculties in Rotterdam. However, it may be that as of 1 September, you will suddenly be studying at Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Studies or Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management.
From Friday 1 September, the Faculty of Social Sciences will be called Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) and the Policy and Management Health Care will change its name to Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management (ESHPM).
Strong connection
“Through the name Erasmus School of Health Policy and Management, we want to emphasise our strong connection with Erasmus University as a whole and with Erasmus MC in particular,” you can read on the website of the iBMG, oops… ESHPM. Furthermore, the word ‘school’ emphasises the important role played by education.
Internationalisation
The FSW (from today ESSB – officially there wasn’t going to be an abbreviation, ‘because it took ages before people could actually remember the abbreviation ESHCC’) wanted a name that better reflected the courses given by the faculty, said vice-dean Victor Bekkers during a faculty council meeting in January 2016. These days, the faculty no longer consists of just Sociology and Public Administration, but also Psychology and Pedagogic studies (and the university college).
In both cases, the new name also had to emphasise internationalisation.
