Minister blows the whistle on EUR for soaring tuition fees
The Ministry of Education has written to Erasmus University asking it to address the issue. Students on the two-year part time business administration master programme pay 33,750 euros a year. This means that the university does not comply with the law.

In a letter to the Lower House, Education Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven writes that EUR is thus violating the law. As a mainstream funded programme, tuition fees for this part time programme may not be higher than the statutory tuition fees of 2,060 euros a year. Deviations are only permitted if the student already has a master degree or comes from outside Europe.
The Ministry has told Erasmus University ‘that by imposing these tuition fees, it is not complying with the law.’ Both the Inspectorate and DUO had already been in touch with EUR.
Mr S.
It was a ‘member of the public, Mr S’ who alerted the Education Committee of the Lower House to EUR’s soaring tuition fees. He questioned the financial accessibility of part time programmes and called on the committee to take action.
As soon as there is more clarity about the inspectorate’s findings, the Minister will inform the House again. EUR will have to study the letter carefully before it can respond, according to RSM spokesperson Marianne Schouten.

The Minister would be well advised to take a good look at the astronomical fees of the Erasmus MSc in Maritime Economics and Logistics, particularly in relation to what this course is offering to students in the past 7 years, as well as the program management’s cost structure. As the founder of this course, my services are at the disposal of the Minister, if she wishes to know more.
