Jeffrey’s tip: Modular Festival
From funky disco with David Vunk to last year’s top-polling house and techno DJ, Dixon. On Saturday 1 July, you can expect diversity and quality across the board at Modular | Music’s third festival (and umpteenth event). While the first edition still found me standing behind the bar – drawing beer, pouring wine and filling water bottles – this year I’m planning to stay on the other side of the counter ? With a friendly atmosphere, perfect location (Park Maasboulevard), a fun crowd, fat sound system and sets from some of the scene’s favourite acts, good vibes are guaranteed. And even the food at Modular Festival is as varied and flavourful as the music. The food trucks offer a wide array of snacks and dishes, ranging from vegan to Vietnamese, with a dash of Indian or Italian. Admission is EUR 32.50 and for that price, they’ve even thrown in the following Modular playlist. Especially for you – to get you in the mood for Saturday!
Saturday 1 July // Park Maasboulevard // EUR 32.50
Manon’s tip: The Sober Street Art Exhibition
If there’s one thing that really warms me to a city, it’s the street art. Some bright colours here; a portrait there – art really brings a city to life! Which is why I’m so very happy to live in Rotterdam: you may not expect it, but if you keep your eyes peeled you can find a lot of cool stuff. And North Rotterdam’s Sober Collective knows this too, which is why they’ve organised The Sober Street Art Exhibition, which opens Friday 14 July. From 7 p.m. to midnight, you can check out work by four street artists at the Sober Collective gallery, free of charge. My personal favourite is Amsterdam native Amok Island, whose gigantic, multi-hued paintings of marine wildlife will definitely bring a smile to your face. Besides exhibiting at the gallery itself, Amok Island and the other artists have also adopted a number of North Rotterdam walls as their canvas. Because hey: it’s a Street Art Exhibition. So be sure to take an evening stroll after visiting the gallery – who knows what you’ll come across.

Esmeralda’s tip: Expedition Festival
Who could say no to a festival in your home town? After descending on Ahoy and Euromast Park during previous editions, this year’s Expedition Festival will be taking over Kralingse Bos on Saturday 15 July. With the hip hop of Busta Rhymes, Gerd Janson’s house beats and The Whooligan’s wonderful mix of soul, funk and future bass, from 1 p.m., the park will turn into one big party. The Early Birds are already sold out, unfortunately, but you can still grab tickets for 39 euro. Personally, I recommend dragging along three friends, because that drops the price of admission to 36 euro a pop. Grab a beer and have fun!
Saturday 15 July // Kralingse Bos // EUR 39 (or EUR 36 with a group ticket)
