Esmeralda’s tip: Rotterdam Rooftop Days
“Get down off that roof! I won’t warn you again, no, no, no, no, get down off that roof! Now!” Nothing could be more apt with Peter Koelewijn at the Rotterdam Rooftop Days 2017. From Friday 9 June 17.00 hrs up to and including Sunday 11 June 18.00 hrs, you can visit no less than seventeen open roofs, including the roof of the Bijenkorf and the Church of St. Lawrence. An absolute must for those who also gladly climbed the stairs to the roof of the Groot Handelsgebouw, for example. With a 5 Euro roof pass, it’s a cinch to get up there and enjoy the city’s skyline. Special tours can also be booked that you pay a little extra for in addition to your roof pass, such as, Rotterdam from Above. My personal favourite is the rooftop cinema above the former V&D. Not to mention the spectacular high-wire act on the Lijnbaan, on Saturday! In a nutshell, there’ll be plenty going on; hopefully I’ll see you there!

Jeffrey’s tip: Boothstock Festival
A handful of tantalisingly old-fashioned outdoor parties are coming up over the summer; to start with, the sixth Boothstock Festival. Here, at the renowned Kralingse Bos, and on the usual DUO account, you can drink as much festival beer as you can. This annual festival, that’s packed full of surprises, is an event that’s open to all chill techno party aficionados. Boothstock will be held on Saturday 10 June, when the site will be transformed into a dance paradise for more than 10,000 festival-goers. With more than thirty international artists, spread out over six areas, this year is once again guaranteed to provide a wide range of music. Should the 40 Euros admission price be a little steep for you, then I recommend keeping an eye on Ticketswap. Of course, you could always head to the after-party for 15 Euros, where you don’t have to hang around waiting for the party to get going, but instead just dive right into the party spirit.

Manon’s tip: Will and The People unplugged
Jeffrey’s outdoor parties are great, of course, but to mix things up I like to plan for a few indoor gigs too. After all, we live in the Netherlands and our summers often go hand in hand with a deluge of rain. In any case, on Saturday 10 June in the evening, I’ll be in the dry at Rotown, dancing to Will and The People’s summer hits. This British band, who you might know from their hit Lion in The Morning Sun, will play unplugged on that evening, or in other words, acoustically. But don’t be fooled; the fact there’ll be no hard bass sounds doesn’t mean it won’t be a great party! I’ve been lucky enough to have seen this band play live twice now, and both times everyone was grooving. You can join in too this time, for just 15 Euros!
