Jeffrey loves a good party, Esmeralda is always after some special event, and Manon loves culture. Together they will provide you with two-weekly tips for a nice day or night out in Rotterdam.

Esmeralda’s tip: Crazy Sexy Cool

Now that my party-loving soul has well and truly recovered from the mayhem that was the holidays, it is longing for a good, wild party. As all my friends know, I’m up for anything, so I’ll be happy to dress up for a good Carnival party, but going all the way to the Catholic province of Brabant to do so seems a little excessive. So it’s a good thing Rotterdam will be hosting a Carnival edition of Crazy Sexy Cool! I’ll be dancing my feet off at the MaasSilo on Saturday, 4 February, dressed up as either a police officer, Catwoman or Snow White (I haven’t quite made up my mind yet). Will you be joining me? Tickets are 22,50 euros each, but be sure to buy yours soon, because the event is nearly sold out!

Jeffrey’s tip: Modular Factory Edition

If you are not particularly in the mood for a dress-up party, ascend ten more floors to Factory 010 on Saturday, 4 February, to enjoy the good stuff Modular Music will be presenting you with. This party will give you many trendy songs full of harmony, cheerful vocals and music that will drive you wild. This is not the kind of party where people stand around doing nothing all evening, so if your New Year’s resolution was to get more exercise in 2017, you will be able to do just that come February!

I also have three other tips for you. Make sure you do not miss out on the exclusive, only-seen-once-before collaboration by Âme and Job Jobse on the main stage! If you are a bit of an explorer, be sure to take a look in the room called “tropical basement”, which has never been used before. The dance floor will be steamy here due to the exotic music by Woody and Afrobot, among other performers. Last but not least, consider not buying your entry ticket on line, but actually picking it up from Funkie House Rotterdam. By doing so, you will receive a ticket for 23 euros, as well as a Modular bag and a 15% discount on a product of your own choosing!

Manon’s tip: Art Rotterdam

One of the annual events I most look forward to is Art Rotterdam, an art fair held every winter in the Van Nelle Factory, which will this year take place from 9-12 February. Over 100 artists and galleries from the Netherlands and abroad will be represented at the art fair. All sorts of art will be able to be inspected, ranging from sculptures and photos to video art and moving installations. You name it and it’s there! Personally, I don’t just attend art fairs for the art on display; after all, you can go to a museum for that. What makes art fairs fun is the kind of people attending them. Of course, there will be ‘regular’ visitors like you and me, but there will also be art dealers and collectors, which means the atmosphere will be quite special. These people come to the art fair to trade in art, and it’s fun watching that process from up close. Be sure to look at the price tags associated with most works of art! Despite the fact that we students can’t afford the great majority of the works on display, it is fun to pretend to be part of the art world for a little while. Thankfully, tickets to the art fair are affordable. You can buy tickets online for 13.50 euros each.
