A record number of foreign students enrolled in Erasmus University Rotterdam this year. RTV Rijnmond reported on Thursday that the city welcomed over 3,900 foreign students out of a total student population of over 23,000.

Dean Philip Hans Franses of the Erasmus School of Economics said: “We’re extremely pleased. We have been working for some time on raising the international profile of our programmes.” Students from all over the world come to Rotterdam to complete an exchange programme or start a full degree programme. While economics and business administration have been popular among foreign students for some time, other disciplines such as medicine, law and philosophy have also started to attract foreign students.

Franses: “We now have a University College in the city centre and programmes in English are available in history, cultural studies, philosophy, psychology and a number of other academic fields.”

Students do not only come to Rotterdam because of its highly regarded university, however. The city itself is also very attractive to foreign students.
