The overarching organization of multicultural student associations, KASEUR, has started a petition for a new prayer room on campus. In 24 hours, the petition was signed over four hundred times.

The prayer room for Muslim students and staff does not meet its demands, says KASEUR, the umbrella of the eight multicultural student associations of the Erasmus University. The space cannot fulfill current demand, given the fact that users have to queue up before the can pray. Because the room is too small and too many people want to pray simultaneously it is too noisy in there. It is not accessible enough for students and employees. In addition, it is unhygienic to pray there, because the cleaning is not adequate. These are the four complaints that the organization has about the current prayer room on the ground floor of the N-building. KASEUR wants the university to facilitate a new prayer room.

Since Tuesday May 20th, there is an online petition to take the bearings on how many employees and students want a new prayer room. In the meantime, the petition has been signed four hundred times. Also, KASEUR has formulated a standard e-mail which can be used to file a complaint about the prayer room.

KASEUR is not willing to answer any questions at the moment, because talks are going on between them and the university about a new prayer room. TF
