It remains unclear how universities and housing corporations should interpret a recent ruling in the case Motazacker in Amsterdam. The consequences could spell the end of the current short-stay accomodation system.
A judge ruled that Iranian researcher Motazacker does not qualify for short-stay rent but should be protected by the Rent Act instead. The consequences of this ruling can be enormous as the entire system of short-stay accommodation for internationals could collapse when students will be allowed to stay in their short-stay apartments for much longer than a year max.
