During this On-Tour at our new location in HB-108, we take a look at the surroundings: we write about remarkable things around Theil and Erasmus buildings, and we let people share their story on our Pitch-your-story days.

Leen Meijboom devoted his life to the ‘Randtriever’, a book retrieval robot that caused a small revolution in the Dutch library scene and attracted visitors from all over the world to Rotterdam’s University Library.

The lobby of the Theil Building is always equipped with exhibition stands run by student societies and study societies seeking to promote the events they host on campus. Who creates and constructs these stands? EM visited Beaufair, the company that supplies EUR with its stands.

Pitch-your-idea stories

We are holding ‘walk-in days’ on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 March: come and visit us with a good idea for an article, and we’ll create one right away.

The first pitch comes from Ulisses Sawczuk da Silva, master’s student in Media, Culture and Society. Besides his studies, he works at a start-up that develops an app to make contact locally. “The app’s called Swabit,” he says.

Ingeborg de Pater of the Erasmus Debating Society pitched her society’s anniversary festivities to EM. The Debating Week will be the highlight of the festivities. Everyone is welcome to attend the debates: Dutch students and international students, with or without debating experience.

Medical student Christiaan Vermaas shares his experiences as a volunteer at Sophia TV, the broadcasting platform of Sophia Children’s Hospital. He hopes that the medical establishment will pay more attention to the impact an illness can have on a patient’s social life.

Timothy Nahr, master’s student in Global Business and Sustainability, shares his view on sustainability and systems thinking. He wants to create more awareness about sustainability using his University of Laif  platform. “I established this platform because I think the curriculum offered by most programmes still lacks some component of what sustainability is,” says Timothy.
