A 18-year-old student at the Erasmus University suddenly died during a fitness training at Erasmus Sport. Kingsley James studied International Business Administration (IBA) at the faculty Rotterdam School of Management.
The first year student suddenly fell ill while exercising. CPR performed by employees of Erasmus Sport failed. Even paramedics could not save him. According to Jon de Ruijter, director of Erasmus Sport, it was very busy at the fitness centre when this happened. Many students witnessed the unfortunate event. “Psychological support for onlookers will be provided,” says De Ruijter.
‘Cheerful, social guy’
James was only 18 years old and did well in his studies. His mentor at IBA says about him in a written response: “I remember him as a cheerful, open and very social guy who always was positive and made us laugh. We will miss him”. According to De Ruijter he was an athletic guy: “A fantastic basketball player.”
“Our thoughts are with the parents and siblings of Kingsley, who must suffer this unexpected loss. We wish them strength in these difficult times”, writes Adri Meijdam, program director of IBA, in an email to all RSM students.
